THE HEADLINE RULE

120 hours total.
20 hours at night.

For Victorian learners under 21, the supervised driving requirement is designed to build substantial on-road experience before the probationary licence test.

Under 21
120 supervised hours, including at least 20 hours at night, recorded correctly before the drive test.
21 or over
The 120-hour logbook requirement applies to learners under 21. Different minimum learner-permit periods apply depending on age.

Exemptions and special circumstances may apply. Check current Transport Victoria and VicRoads guidance for your individual eligibility and logbook requirements.

120 hours is the requirement.
Experience is the objective.

Victoria’s learner system gives younger drivers a long period to build supervised experience before moving to a probationary licence.

The strongest practice is progressive. Early drives can be simple and familiar, then gradually expand into different roads, traffic environments, weather and light as the learner’s skills improve.

Waylo helps make that variety visible, without replacing professional instruction or the official Victorian logbook.

PRACTICE WITH PURPOSE

Use the hours to build real-world breadth.

Road variety

Move progressively beyond familiar residential streets to more varied routes and road speeds when appropriate.

Night experience

Spread the required 20 night hours across multiple drives so learners experience darkness, glare and changing visibility more than once.

Traffic variety

Build experience across quiet, moderate and busier traffic instead of completing most practice at the easiest times.

Everyday situations

Include parking, merging, roundabouts, unfamiliar intersections and ordinary journeys that introduce useful new situations.

RECORDING HOURS

Victorian learner logbooks.

Victoria allows eligible learners to record supervised driving through the myLearners app or the Victorian learner logbook. For learners under 21, the required 120 hours must include at least 20 night hours before the drive test.

Waylo sits alongside that official process. It does not submit hours to VicRoads or replace myLearners. It helps learners and supervising drivers understand the breadth of practice behind the official total.

Complete the Victorian hours.
Broaden what sits behind them.

Keep the official Victorian record for licensing. Use Waylo to see whether supervised practice is expanding across roads, conditions, traffic and situations.
